Penguin Parade and Celebration

We had a wonderful time parading our life-size penguins through the school and then sharing our great work on the Penguin unit with family members and school staff. We even had a visit from our Superintendent, Elaine Pickney. Everyone was so excited and it was a fantastic morning!!! Check our our pictures below.

Stone Soup

I'd like to thank all of the parents who came to help with our "Stone Soup" including Caitlin Waddick who organized it. The children heard the story read, got the opportunity to cut up the vegetables and then sample the soup on Wednesday. I heard the soup was very good!

The Art Room is Looking for Supplies.....

In the art room we are doing a robot project. We need:
corrugated cardboard,cereal boxes, gears (plastic or metal) and any kind of smallish hardware

Week of February 13th

The weeks continue to be very busy. Tuesday was Valentine's Day and everyone had a terrific time. There were some fun and creative Valentine's cards given out. It always amazes the creativity that goes into making these. I'd like to thank everyone for my cards and I'd also like to thank Cecilia Halliburton, Christie Allen, and Anna Palmer for contributing to the fun snacks and drinks.

The children enjoyed checking out the Book Fair this week. Hopefully everyone that wanted to go, got a chance to make it in for it. I want to thank the families who contributed a book to the classroom. That was very thoughtful and the children are enjoying the stories already.

The penguins are invading our classroom. We are very busy wrapping up our unit and painting life size Penguins. We will have a parade and visit the Kindergarten classrooms next Thursday. We are looking forward to having families visit us on Thursday as well. Invitations went home in the Friday folders today. We have also been practicing counting by 2s. If you get a chance, practice this with your child at home. It can be a little tricky as we get up closer to 100. Below are our Penguin pairs that we made and then put into a Growing pattern. Ask your child all about it.

Week of February 6th

Whew! What a crazy week this has been! On Monday Ben presented his Discovery Table about magnets. He performed some experiments to show the classes how magnets work and taught them that items that were magnetic had iron in them.

Tuesday was Vermont Writes Day and our school did a seven minute school wide write about what we saw on the way to school. Tuesday was also Hands On Nature day. This month's lesson was about galls. We learned what a gall is and learned about different types of galls. The larvae of flies, gnats and wasps live in galls until they develop into an adult. When they are ready to emerge from the gull, they dig a pathway to get out. They spend 50 weeks in the gall and only 2 weeks outside the gall before they die! Ask your child what they learned about galls?


Wednesday was the 100th day of school! We had several activities centered around the 100th day! We made posters that you should have seen come home where we practiced counting by 10s. We sang a 100 day song. We drew pictures of how we thought we might look when we turn 100 years old. These will be displayed on a bulletin board in the very near future. We had a visit from "Zero the Hero" who, shall we say, looked a little different this year. Hmmmm...... He read us a story about the importance of the number 0.

We are getting closer to the end of our Penguin unit. Look for invitations next week to see all of our great work that we've done and have worked hard on.

Just a few reminders about our schedule next week. Monday will be Book Fair preview day, Wednesday will be our purchase day. Valentine bags are made so your child may bring in their Valentines on either Monday or Tuesday.
