I hear, and I forget.
I see, and I remember.
I do, and I understand.

I can't believe that next week is the last full week of school. This year has gone by fast. I am happy though that I get to have your children in my class again next year:)

In Reader's Workshop this week we talked about how good reader's understand their stories as they read and make predictions about what they think will happen next in the story. We wrote our predictions and the clues we used to help us make that prediction. We also drew pictures of what we thought was going to happen next in the story.

In Writer's Workshop we wrote Haiku's this week. A Haiku is a Japanese poem about nature that is 3 lines long. The first line contains 3 syllables, the second line contains 7 syllables and the third line contains 5 syllables. Those of us who wanted to, shared our poems with the class on Friday.

In math we are beginning to look at how we have changed since we were babies. We figured out our length as babies using unifix cubes, our length now using unifix cubes and how our lengths compare to other students in the class.

This week a student shared her butterflies that hatched out of their cocoons. One even hatched while at school. On Wednesday we let them go over at Davis park. They were Painted Lady butterflies. We'd like to thank her for sharing this experience with us.

 Next week is Spirit week.
 Here is the schedule:
 Monday, June 9th – Sport’s Day
Tuesday, June 10th – Board Game Day (Bring your favorite board game to school to play.) Wednesday, June 11th – Beach Day
Thursday, June 12th – Pajama Day
Friday, June 13th – Hat and Shades Day (Field Day)

For Field Day, please have your child wear a yellow t-shirt if possible.

Our last day of school will be Monday, June 15th. Dismissal will be at 11:30 am. Report cards will go home on that day. If your child is not in school on Monday, I will mail his/her report card home.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Nancy
